Meet Our Governing Board

Blanca Brown
Mrs. Blanca Brown - Board President, businesswoman, catechist, child advocate, childcare provider, and preschool teacher, has been involved as a parent of children who attended Monterey Heights School. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and her Masters in Education Degree at National University. Her involvement with the school district has included assisting Excelencia y Justicia en Educacion, a Latino parent involvement organization. She has also served as an English Language Acquisition committee/District English Language Acquisition Committee (ELAC/DELAC) member as well as a parent representative to the District Oversight and Planning Team for our work on equity. Her core belief is that "All children can learn and be educated." email Mrs. Blanca Brown

 

 

Tim Shaw
Mr. Timothy Shaw - Board Vice President, began his service with the Lemon Grove School District through appointment in May 2002. Tim was elected to serve his first four year term in November of 2002 and was re-elected to a second term in 2006. Tim and his wife, Toni, have three daughters, two who have moved on to high school, Lisha and Micah, while the youngest, Kayla, remains a student of the Lemon Grove School District. Tim received his Bachelor’s Degree, Teacher Credential, and Master’s Degree from San Diego State University and has received his “School Counseling,” PPS, from the University of California. Tim has taught at both the elementary and middle school levels. Tim is presently a high school counselor for the San Diego Unified School District, CHAMPS High School located on the Crawford Education Complex. Presently, Tim serves on the advisory boards of Helix Charter High School and San Diego State’s EOP (Equal Opportunity Program). In addition, Tim is a member of the PTA, and active member of PASS (Partnership for Academically Successful Students), as well as teacher and an usher at the Bayview Baptist Church. email Mr. Tim Shaw

 

 

Katie Dexter
Mrs. Katie Dexter - Board Clerk, was elected to her first term in November 2002. She and her husband, Dex, have two children who attended San Altos and Lemon Grove Middle Schools. They have lived in Lemon Grove over 16 years. Mrs. Dexter held several positions in PTA, was Chairperson for San Altos’ School Site Council and served on the District’s Nutrition Committee. She was an active Board member of the Lemon Grove Little League, Volunteer Coordinator for Lemon Grove Old Time Days and served on the Library committee. She also served as board member on various community non-profit organizations. Mrs. Dexter has an A.S. in Business Administration and currently presides as President of the Governing Board. She sits on the District’s negotiations team, is a member of the City-School District Collaboration team, Budget Restoration Advisory Committee, Wellness Committee and the Performing Arts Committee. email Mrs. Katie Dexter 

 

 

Larry Loschen
Mr. Larry Loschen - Board Member, was appointed to fill a vacant position, Larry has served on the Lemon Grove School District Governing Board since February 2009. He and his wife, Julie, have lived in Lemon Grove since 1999. Their oldest son Marc, currently a student at Helix Charter High School, attended San Altos Elementary School and Lemon Grove Middle School. Their youngest son Eric also attended San Altos Elementary School and is currently a student at Lemon Grove Middle School. Larry has been a member of the San Altos School Site Council as well as serving as Auditor, Vice President, and President of the San Altos PTA. He has also been a member of the Lemon Grove Middle School Music Parents Board and currently is an active board member of the Lemon Grove Middle School PTSA. Before his appointment to the Governing Board, Larry was also a parent representative for the District’s Budget Advisory Committee. email Mr. Larry Loschen

 

 

 
Jay Bass Mr. Jay Bass - Board Member, was appointed to fill a vacant position on the Governing Board.  Jay and his wife, Barbara, have two children who have attended Lemon Grove schools.  The Bass family is very involved in the community.  Barbara is a parent involvement coordinator at Golden Avenue School and is the secretary for the middle school band.  Jay is an AYSO coach and referee, a Lemon Grove Old Time Days committee member and volunteer.  He previously served as a member of the school site councils at Golden Avenue School and Lemon Grove Middle School and is a former Lemon Grove City Planning Commissioner.  He is the fourth member of his family to serve as a school board member.  Jay is a Navy veteran and is employed by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.  email Mr. Jay Bass
